As <\/span>the<\/span> proverb<\/span> says<\/span>: \u201cHe <\/em><\/span>that<\/span> would<\/span> eat<\/span> the<\/span> kernel<\/span> must<\/span> crack <\/span>the<\/span> nut<\/span><\/em>.\u201d<\/em> And <\/span>that<\/span> is<\/span> the<\/span> case <\/span>of<\/span> Nueces de Catamarca. <\/span>From<\/span> the<\/span> Catamarca <\/span>valleys<\/span>, <\/span>located<\/span> at 1,150 <\/span>meters<\/span> above<\/span> the<\/span> sea <\/span>level<\/span>, <\/span>we<\/span> offer<\/span> top-<\/span>quality<\/span> walnuts<\/span> to<\/span> the<\/span> world<\/span> that<\/span> stand <\/span>out<\/span> due<\/span> to<\/span> their<\/span> size<\/span>, color and <\/span>high<\/span> pulp<\/span> yield<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Projected Growth <\/h2>\n\n

\u201c<\/span>Our<\/span> walnut<\/span> production<\/span> increased<\/span> by<\/span> 50%. <\/span>While<\/span> in 2021, <\/span>with<\/span> 215 <\/span>hectares<\/span>, <\/span>we<\/span> obtained<\/span> 410 <\/span>tons<\/span> of<\/span> Chandler <\/span>walnuts<\/span>, in 2022, <\/span>we<\/span> got<\/span> 600 <\/span>tons<\/span><\/em>\u201d<\/em>, <\/span>said<\/span> C\u00e9sar Tello<\/strong>, Head <\/span>of<\/span> Production<\/span> and <\/span>Packing<\/span> at Nueces de Catamarca.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cReaching these numbers was a great achievement from the production area. Walnuts need precise weather conditions so that production can reach its maximum potential\u201d.<\/p>\nJos\u00e9 Luis Taddei, Head of Primary Production<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n

These achievements are the result of different factors: the work done over the years and the knowledge acquired on plantation management, which is enhanced by external technical support and the development of a technology package. <\/p>\n\n

Good <\/span>weather<\/span> conditions<\/span> in <\/span>the<\/span> area<\/span> favored<\/span> these<\/span> increase<\/span> in <\/span>production<\/span>: \u201c<\/em><\/span>We<\/span> needed<\/span> cold<\/span> weather<\/span> in <\/span>winter<\/span> so <\/span>that<\/span> there<\/span> was<\/span> a <\/span>good<\/span> vegetation<\/span> and <\/span>reproduction<\/span> growth<\/span> during<\/span> the<\/span> summer<\/span> cycle<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> crop<\/span>. <\/span>We<\/span> streamlined<\/span> our<\/span> post-harvesting<\/span> processes<\/span>: <\/span>we<\/span> increased<\/span> our<\/span> drying<\/span> capacity<\/span> by<\/span> 25%, <\/span>obtaining<\/span> 70 <\/span>tons<\/span> every<\/span> day<\/span>. <\/span>This<\/span> provides<\/span> us<\/span> with<\/span> greater<\/span> speed<\/span> during<\/span> harvesting<\/span>, <\/span>increases<\/span> the<\/span> fruit<\/span> reception<\/span> capacity<\/span> during<\/span> packing<\/span>, and, <\/span>therefore<\/span>, <\/span>improves<\/span> the<\/span> fruit<\/span> quality<\/span><\/em>\u201d<\/em>, <\/span>said<\/span> Tello.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

As <\/span>part<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> growth<\/span> plan <\/span>during<\/span> the<\/span> next<\/span> two<\/span> years<\/span>, <\/span>we<\/span> will<\/span> incorporate<\/span> 60 <\/span>hectares<\/span> and <\/span>increase<\/span> our<\/span> storage<\/span> capacity<\/span> by<\/span><\/strong> 40%<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cDuring this first stage, the plants were purchased in Mendoza, where the best nurseries in the country are located. Commercial Balance and Future Challenges <\/h2>\n\n

In Argentina, walnut production is an activity that is still developing. According to the last national agricultural census (2018), 18,488 tons of walnuts were produced in the year, with the provinces of Mendoza, Catamarca and La Rioja having 71% of the planted area. <\/p>\n\n

Most<\/span> of<\/span> it<\/span> consists<\/span> of<\/span> walnuts<\/span> (69.3% <\/span>of<\/span> the<\/span> total <\/span>area<\/span>), <\/span>then<\/span> almonds<\/span> (14.6%) and, <\/span>finally<\/span>, in <\/span>smaller<\/span> proportions<\/span>, <\/span>there<\/span> are <\/span>crops<\/span> of<\/span> pecan <\/span>nuts<\/span> (8.4%), <\/span>pistachio<\/span> nuts<\/span> (5.6%), <\/span>hazelnuts<\/span> (2%) and <\/span>chestnuts<\/span> (0.1%).<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Our production reaches domestic and international markets in an 85% and 15%, respectively. Last year, Mendoza and Italy stood out in terms of sales. <\/p>\n\n
